How long does Eid last?

Eid begins first day after the month of Ramadan in the Islamic culture and is a three-day celebration. Eid is short for Eid al-Fitr, the Festival of Fast Breaking.

Ramadan is a month-long fast observed in Islam. During the month, Muslims take part in religious activities including restoring relationships and charitable giving. In the last days of Ramadan, they give food gifts to the poor so that all can celebrate Eid. The first day of Eid begins with a gathering for a sermon followed by a short prayer. Once the service is complete, participants visit family and friends, telephone those too distant to visit in person and give gifts to children and others. In Muslim countries, Eid is a three-day school holiday and government offices close.
