Is Quran al Kareem Arabic?

Quran al Kareem is an English transliteration of the Arabic phrase “noble Koran.” The Koran (Arabic for “read” or “recite”) is the name of the holy text of Islam. “Kareem” is difficult to translate into English and has the sense of “honorable” or “being beautiful and full of benefits.”

The Koran or Quran is considered by Muslims to be the literal word of Allah to the Prophet Mohammad. Muslims believe that the contents of the Koran were given in Arabic to Mohammad through the angel Gabriel. Muslims revere it as a sacred text and frame their beliefs and lives according to its teaching. Referring to the Koran as “Al Quran al Kareem” is one form of this reverence.
